5 Things College Kids with Contacts Can Relate To

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oneonta chapter.

Wearing contacts should be easy, but nothing ever works perfectly– college kids with contacts understand that the struggle is real. Here’s the top five problems with contacts during college.

1. Blurry vision when you’re tired.

Waking up early for class is painful in and of itself but putting in contacts in the morning makes everything more difficult. If you’re tired and get dry eyes, it can be super difficult to see the board in class and you’ll have to strain to see, which can cause a headache. I thought contacts were supposed to help us see?!

2. Adding extra time in the morning for them.

You never know what’s going to go wrong with your contacts in the morning. If you get a miniscule scratch on the lens, it can feel like a terrible, burning plague just got released onto your eyeball. Then, you have to go through the process of changing into a different pair. Who has time for this?

3. Avoiding the shower water in your eyes.

If you’re like me and wear your contacts in the shower, you know that if one drop of water gets in your eyes it can throw everything off, and suddenly you have to take a minute or two to blink your contact back into place. Water and contacts do not mix well, that’s for sure!

4. Not being able to fall asleep casually.

If only it was easy to fall asleep in your bed and not have a worry in the world. People with contacts know that falling asleep with contacts in is the last thing you want, because it’ll lead to a struggle when you wake up. We dream of the day when we can fall asleep without worrying we’ll rip our corneas out the next morning.

5. Dying when you get an eyelash or hair in your eye.

It’s amazing how one little hair can feel like a whole attack on your eyeball. It’s very difficult to look normal in class when your eye feels like it’s on fire, and there are tears streaming down your face. Trying to locate the hair is a whole other struggle; normally we just blink it away into oblivion. If you can relate to these five things, you know how hard contacts can be. We love them, but we hate them. Be nice to your friend with contacts– they go through a lot!
