I woke unconscious,

Wondering with my mind asleep,

Staring blankly into the vivid tints of a distant frontier.

Below the forest canopy I lay,

My hands entangled from flourishing buds.

It saps me of my muse, my pride,

The undergrowth

Stands unwavering, uncanny, unsolicited.

Above me soared rainbow wings and shimmering scales.

All around I hear a cascade of voices in screaming colors.

I yell but the roaring waters drown my call.

I struggle but the vines constrict harder,

Forcing every last breath out of my system.

Watching the bubbles, my dreams, rise and burst,

I lay immobilized by this stunning, beautiful,

Yet dangerous world.

My body starts to give way to the ground.

I think I am sinking.

Maybe

I would rise like the Phoenix.

But I must first blaze from crackling embers

To ash.
