The Real Housewives of Your Friend Group

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stony Brook chapter.

The Real Housewives of New York City is an iconic show that has recently taken over my life. It is full of drama and excitement that proves to be a solid, yet exaggerated representation of your normal group of girlfriends. Although the ladies of the show live a luxurious life being part of Manhattan’s elite, they prove to be relatable to the audience in their own different ways. Each Real Housewife has a certain personality that can be found in anyone’s friend group, even yours.

1. Ramona, the one who tells you exactly what she thinks.

The only way to describe Ramona Singer is eccentric. Her high energy and enthusiasm are ones that can’t be matched. She is well known for her love of Pinot Grigio and for saying a little too much at the wrong time and place. She never hesitates to tell someone what she thinks of them and frequently makes offensive remarks. No matter what it is, she will tell it to you straight whether you like it or not.

2. Luann, the one who sits on a high horse.

Luann de Lesseps is also known as The Countess because she was married to a French count back in the days. With that title, she also carries a lot of class and elegance; so much so that she has an etiquette book and music videos about class. She believes that people should have certain manners and becomes pretty judgmental when others don’t behave the way she thinks they should. In her eyes, she can do no wrong and places herself above everyone else. She can be sweet at times, but also makes quick side remarks that irks the other girls.

3. Bethenny, the one who always cracks jokes.

Bethenny Frankel is well-known for her witty one-line jokes that makes everyone laugh. She knows how to deliver a joke at the right time and doesn’t take herself too seriously.  She makes light of difficult situations but also can get very upset very fast. Most of the time she’s laid back and has a good time; just don’t get on her bad side.

4. Alex, the one who brings her mans everywhere.

Alex McCord was initially known as the quiet one but found her voice throughout the first few seasons. She has strong opinions about other girls in the group and always has her husband, Simon, by her side to agree with her. Simon comes with her to almost every social event and aired on the show so frequently, I could’ve mistaken him as another Real Housewife. Even though I admire their love for each other, Alex and Simon conjured up a lot of unnecessary drama.

5. Kelly, the one who never makes any sense.

Kelly Bensimon is someone who has many thoughts but can’t really get them out in the right way. She says a lot, but never quite finishes what she wants to say. Her sentences don’t make sense most of the time and she usually gets written off as crazy. I think she has good intentions, but her actions and words come off as muddled and unclear.

The Real Housewives of New York are an interesting group of girlfriends. They all have big personalities that sometimes can be hard to handle, but they always seem to maintain the peace (for a certain period of time). Their qualities are ones to both admire and question. Overall, the Real Housewives teach us all the right and wrong ways to maintain friendships and relationships.
