Celebrities are given the unique position being able to reach hundreds of thousands of people easily, but not all of them take advantage of that opportunity. With great power, comes great responsibility, right? Here are just five amazing women who have used their influence to help others!

1. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift made headlines when she refused to just “Shake it Off” and sued a man who groped her while taking a photo together. Though it is historically difficult for a woman to prove sexual harassment and assault in the courtroom, she won!  The civil suit was only for $1 but she gave girls who have been sexually harassed and assaulted a voice on the international stage. She also donated to the Joyful Heart Foundation, which helps domestic abuse and sexual assault victims.

She most recently returned to the headlines for inspiring an increase in voting registration after abandoning her tradition of remaining politically silent.  Her call for people to “get out and vote” inspired people to take advantage of a constitutional right that many of us take for granted!

2. Audrey Hepburn

Breakfast at Tiffany’s cemented Audrey Hepburn’s status as a fashion icon, but she was so much more than pretty and fashionable! Prior to being famous, she helped the Dutch Resistance during World War Two. After becoming famous, she became a Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF, sacrificing her career to become heavily involved! She went on to earn the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her efforts.

3. Oprah Winfrey

We all love Oprah as much as Josh Nichols loves Oprah, well, almost as much as Josh loves Oprah! She’s known for her extensive philanthropy, but one of her amazing contributions is her Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa that gives girls from economic disadvantage the ability to earn an education and pursue leadership opportunities! Go global female empowerment!

4. Carrie Underwood

Every girl has shouted along to “Before He Cheats” but Carrie Underwood isn’t just known for her crazy and strong women anthems. Recently, she brought attention to stigma surrounding miscarriages. Women and reproduction has long been a taboo subject, especially pertaining to miscarriages. In interviews, Carrie Underwood smashed down the societal barriers to talking about the difficulties many women endure to allow for a more open discussion!

5. Emma Watson

Emma Watson is one of the most outspoken feminist actresses of our generation! As a UN Ambassador, she has used her platform for advocating for women’s rights and against sexual harassment in the workplace. She has taken her advocacy for women into her profession by refusing to wear a corset in Beauty and the Beast. After all, actions speak louder than words!

While some celebrities might not be the best role models (looking at you, Lindsay Lohan), these women are truly inspiring examples of women using their position for creating a better world!

Just a funky lil girl trying to put my thoughts into relatable words!!! I've had the dream of being Anne Hathaway's character in Devil Wears Prada since I was like three. Maybe without being someone's bitch, but you know, everyone has to start somewhere.
