To All the Sweaters I’ve Loved Before

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Dear sweaters: It’s finally your time to shine. In other words, it’s the best time of the year, my happy place, etc. Summer fashion is always a hit or miss for me – sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, sometimes I wear different combinations of athletic shorts and t-shirts for three weeks straight. But fall, on the other hand, really gets me goin’. I love fall fashion (and all things fall for that matter) with all of my heart. My wallet hates it, but it’s ok, she’ll be fine.

There are SO many fun things to wear during the fall. So many different options for skirt and pant lengths, so many options for layering, so many shoe choices, you get the gist. It’s so hard to go wrong at this time of year. But sweaters, you truly hold the key to my heart.

I like to stick to neutrals when it comes to my sweaters, at least for the most part. With that being said, I think it’s good to have a couple of pops of color in your sweater arsenal on the days when all you have the energy to pull on are black leggings (me every single day). Overall, though, my sweaters are gray, black, and off-white or tan. For this article, I picked out three of my many, many sweaters, and paired them with simple black jeans, a statement belt, and two pairs of boots. It’s an easy capsule wardrobe – 3 sweaters, 6 outfits. And that’s with one pair of pants. Let me walk you through this.

I started off with this off-white turtleneck and what I lovingly refer to as my diva boots, no explanation needed. For a little extra oomph, I French-tucked the sweater (Tan pls sponsor me) to show off my statement belt, a trend that I’m still not over. You could easily replace these boots with a simple black pair, or, for a more casual look, take off the belt and grab your fave pair of colorful Vans!

For my next outfit I swapped out the white sweater for a pink one (lol this is what I consider a pop of color send help), and my diva boots for my favorite staple shoe, my black pointy-toed boots. I hit it with another French tuck (someone get me on Queer Eye stat), and there ya have it! This sweater is cropped so a tuck is definitely not necessary, but it also keeps cold wind from blowing up your shirt haha #protip.

Last but not least, I did a quick location change and tossed the pink sweater aside for what might be my favorite sweater so far this year. Gray sweaters are easy to come by (catch me in my gray oversized sweater from Cotton On 25/8), so the cute little lopsided pocket on this one adds just a touch of personality. I kept the black boots here, but the leopard print ones would’ve worked just as well!

Here’s the best thing about all of this: the bags under my eyes are most definitely designer, but my sweaters aren’t! My personal style changes so frequently that I’ve found it best to leave the splurging for things I know I’ll wear forever, like jeans and staple shoes. When it comes to things like sweaters that I know I’m going to want a ton of, I stick to places like PacSun, CottonOn, or websites like Boohoo or Romwe.

So in conclusion, sweaters, I like you like you. You make my favorite season even better. Love you long time, xoxo Elle.
