A Collegiates’ Mid-Semester Guide to Self Care

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

It’s that time in the semester – you probably just finished your midterms but can’t even take a minute to breath because of all the tests, projects, quizzes, and papers you have coming up. Like many college students, you are feeling the heavy weight of your course work, sports, extra-curriculars, and/or jobs crushing down on your shoulders.

I know it’s super overwhelming…but don’t fret, collegiate. Here are some tips for practicing self care and for staying sane this semester.  First of all: “self care.” Self care includes attitudes and actions that contribute to your happiness and well-being. With all the stresses that come with being a collegiate, self care is crucial for your well-being.

Here are some easy ways to practice self care & de-stress:

Have a spa day

Having an at home spa day/night is super cheap and easy. Do a face mask – Tony Moly’s Hydrating face mask is my personal favorite. Paint your nails, or do a hair mask. It gives you time to focus just on yourself; and takes you out of your hectic everyday life.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Drinking water is scientifically proven to boost your mood and give you energy. Staying hydrated is an easy way to take care of yourself.

Treat yo’ self

Buy yourself a coffee, new makeup, macaroons, or a new outfit. Whatever makes you happy. Investing in yourself and buying yourself nice things will boost your mood. Spoil yourself, you deserve it!

Workout

Going to the gym or for a run can help you destress. When you exercise, your brain releases endorphins which de-stress you and makes you happier. You can literally feel the stress melting away.

Try to go to sleep as early as you can

Although college students should be getting 8 hours of sleep every night, most of us average out around 5. Try to shut down earlier and make a point to get more sleep when you can.

Create A Bullet Journal!

In the crazy world of adulting, a bullet journal allows you to organize your thoughts and put your time into something positive for you. Tumblr and Pinterest have tons of inspo for bullet journals & how to journal.

I hope these tips are helpful to you & help you to destress with all the craziness that comes with this time of year. Remember, self care isn’t selfish & you deserve the world.
