Skincare is something that I take seriously all thanks to the teachings of my mother and grandmother. Going back as early as my middle school days I was taught the importance of taking care of your skin. The skin is the largest organ of our body, covering an area of around 20 square feet. In todays’ market there are a plethora of skincare items that won’t break the bank for us college students.

Makeup Remover

Taking off your makeup after a long day is essential to clean and happy skin. Sleeping with your makeup on will clog up your pores, causing breakouts and those pesky blackheads we all hate. An affordable makeup remover that works like a charm is the Simple Micellar Water. This makeup remover retails for $6 on Amazon. The Simple Micellar Water cleanses the skin and removes any makeup and contaminants left on the skin throughout the day. This is also a great product for those who struggle with sensitive skin since it contains no harsh chemicals like artificial perfume or dye. It’s also packed with vitamin B3 and C which is sure to make your skin happy.

Toner

Toner removes any extra makeup or bacteria that still lingers around even after a thorough cleansing. Toner also removes extra sebum from the skin that can cause your pores to get clogged up. It even balance the skin’s pH! A personal longtime favorite of mine is Dickinson’s Pore Perfecting Witch Hazel toner. This toner removes any makeup leftover and has also cleared up any pimples and texture. This toner retails for $5 on Target’s website. There are other versions of this toner on the market as well. It’s all about finding what works best to feed your skin with. Skincare is trial and error!

Eye cream

The skin right under the eyes can often be neglected with all those late nights studying for finals. It’s important to show our under-eyes some love. An affordable eye cream that works wonders is the Olay Eyes Ultimate Eye Cream. This magical eye cream is packed with peptides and vitamins to help moisturize the undereye area as well as prevent wrinkles over time. This eye cream also has color-correcting properties in the cream that are able to conceal the dark circles from all the late nights. The retail price for this eye cream is $17.99 on Amazon.

Face Masks

Face masks can be used for a fun night in with friends or as part of your self-care routine — no matter the purpose it shouldn’t have to break the bank. An affordable face mask that your skin will thank you for is the Sephora Collection Mud Mask. This mud mask is made of copper, white clay, and zinc, which helps get rid of blemishes and excess sebum. You can use this face mask all over the face or as a spot treatment. This face mask retails for $10 on the Sephora website or in store.
