I have strong opinions about pie. Maybe that is a bad thing, but nothing beats the flaky crust and the delicious fillings. World Pie Day, or Thanksgiving as some like to call it, will be here before we know it!

9. Pumpkin

Okay, I know this is a pretty controversial decision. The fact of the matter is, I don’t really like pumpkin pie. I ate it for years before realizing that it is just a mediocre pie. Plus, if you need whipped cream to make it a good pie, then maybe that says something.

This pie incorporates the so loved whipped cream into the actual pumpkin pie. Honestly, anything is an improvement from regular pumpkin pie. Don’t @ me.

7. Chocolate

Chocolate pie is delicious, don’t get me wrong, but it is not always what I am looking for on Thanksgiving Day. Cream-based pies can be a lot to prepare, and most chocolate pies also have a meringue topping.

6. Apple

Apple is a classic fall pie, which makes it a good Thanksgiving option. I will eat and enjoy an apple pie, but it isn’t always my favorite.

5. Caramel apple

I love caramel apples, so I am all for an easier way to get those flavors. Plus, a lot of times this type of pie is topped with a crumble. Toppings will always be more delicious than a double-crust (which traditional apple pies usually have).

3. Sweet Potato

Sweet potato pie is pumpkin pie’s more likable cousin. Most of the ingredients are the same or similar, but the sweet potato makes the pie more light. It is also more sweet than the spice of pumpkin pie. It is a delicious Southern favorite and a Thanksgiving classic!

2. Pecan

Pecan is undoubtably a fall pie, and it is delicious. Maybe I speak with bias (my dad makes some of the best pecan pies–one went for $60 at a church function), but pecan pies signal the holiday season. The sugar filling is sweet but full of rich flavor, and the pecans give the pie a nuttiness and much needed break from the sweet.

1. Cherry

Cherry pie is king. If I were to be presented with all nine of these pies, while I may take small slices from multiple, the biggest slice would definitely be cherry. While not always presented as a fall pie, it is never absent from my family’s Thanksgiving spread. The tartness of the cherries is a wonderful finish to a delicious meal. The pie is wonderful on its own, but it can also get even better with the addition of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Okay, folks, I hope that you are now properly angered about my strong pie opinions. Disagree? Sorry, I don’t make the rules.
