Dear Samantha,

I know that life may seem inconsistent and unpredictable right now. Nothing is stable, and the future is unknown. I’m reminding you not to worry as much and remember that this feeling is temporary. You are in the transition stage of your life. There will never be a time like this again, where you feel so vulnerable, so alone, so confused. Even though you feel alone, you are not in this battle alone. So many people your age feel this way, IT’S NORMAL. This stage of life, 18-25 years old, is just a weird time. I know you are independent and can take care of yourself, but at the same time, you aren’t quite an adult who can financially provide for herself yet. It seems like you may never be but trust me, you will. There is so much that lies ahead if you just be patient and let it happen.

Don’t stress so much about the bad grade you got in economics. Or that fact that you slept through your alarm two days in a row. Don’t beat yourself up because you are working at a crappy minimum wage job you hate or the fact that you are on a constant hustle, with no time for rest. Don’t get upset because of relationships or friendships that come and go. All that will be so microscopic in a few years.

Don’t think too much about what to wear of if you should go to that party or not. It might seem like such a life changing decision, but it’s really not. Just be here for the moment and enjoy it while you can.

You’ll look back at this time and realize it was a time for growth. You are learning, changing, and figuring out how you fit into this world. It’s okay to feel directionless sometimes. Just remember, it’s only temporary and the future only gets better from here.

So, take life for what it is instead of what “it should be”. Live day to day, taking in the lessons you come across. This time is short, and you’ll look back and wish you enjoyed it just a bit longer.

Good luck, I know you got this.

Sincerely,

Future Samantha
