I chose to highlight this wonderful young lady and fellow Her Campus member to showcase her support and passion for our amazing organization. Tiyonna Cobb is a sophomore psychology major with a minor in counseling. Her career aspirations include being a counselor and owning her own practice one day.

What made you want to join Her Campus?

I like that with Her Campus you didn’t have to be a member of the Exec Board to participate. With Her Campus, you can be more hands on with presenting ideas to be implemented as opposed to just being a general member with little to no input. There is more flexibility to be involved without having the responsibility of holding an Exec position. The message of Her Campus being women empowerment drew me to the organization because I am all about empowering women and promoting women empowerment.

How do you contribute to the Special Events Team?

I help plan events for fundraising, bonding events for members, and events relevant to the UNT community. My role is to strategize and recommend fun and unique ideas for events, as well as come up with locations to host these events.

What have you gained from being a member this semester?

Being a part of Her Campus has encouraged me to be more creative and expressive. It has inspired me to be more of a leader, be involved more on campus and take more of a stake in campus life at UNT. I have also been more encouraged to use my voice to better the UNT community.

Where do you see Her Campus going next semester?

This semester the org has been more exposed on campus, so I think this will lead to more attraction and growth in the number of members. We have a feel for our place on campus, so we should see more growth overall.

What would you say to someone who is on the fence about joining Her Campus?

I’ve talked to a lot of people who are interested but feel like as general members they won’t have the opportunity to make a difference or give input if they aren’t on Exec board. I would stress to them that with Her Campus everyone has a place and a voice no matter what. I would encourage them to join because they can be involved and proactive without holding an Exec position.

How have you stood out this semester in the organization?

I try to voice my opinion as much as possible. I didn’t want to fade to the back of the org or go with the flow. I put my best foot forward by volunteering for events when others couldn’t or not being shy to provide my input when asked by our co-presidents. I believe members see my effort to be an active member.

I am a Junior studying Fashion Merchandising at UNT. I enjoy binge watching Netflix and Hulu. I look forward to covering current trends and new designer collections.
Scotlyn is a UNT alum, Class of 2020. She graduated with a degree in Digital and Print Journalism and a minor in English. During her time with Her Campus, she served as the Chapter President for two years, and also held positions as Chapter Advisor, Writer, and Chapter Expansion Assistant through Her Campus Media. And yes, her name is like the country, but spelled differently.
