After nearly three years on hiatus, The 1975 is back and better than ever. With their third studio album “A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships,” the tracks take us on a journey through love, self-acceptance and moving forward in the digital age. The band is known for making complex music, and this album is no different.

The album portrays a mix of genres; it has its fair share of pop tunes that will make you want to run around and dance, no matter where you may be listening (people on the bus HATE when I listen to this album). Songs like “Give Yourself A Try,” “TOOTIME” and “Love It If We Made It” will definitely pump you up. This album also has a good amount of slower, heartfelt songs with lyrics that pull you in. “Be My Mistake” and “Mine” are reliable tear-jerkers, but oh so beautiful.

There are a few stand-out tracks on the album, one of them is “It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You),” which also happens to have an extremely personal meaning to frontman Matty Healy. The song serves as an honest reflection on his struggles with heroin addiction. After being clean since late 2017, Healy isn’t afraid to be honest about his struggles in the band’s music. In an interview with Billboard, he spoke about the track. “The problem I have now is my truth,” said Healy. “I feel like I can’t negotiate properly with the world if I can’t tell my truth.”

It’s no doubt “A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships” has received resounding praise among fans and critics alike. Don’t worry, The 1975 isn’t taking a couple years to write their next album. The band announced in the summer of 2018 that a whole new album is expected to be released in April of 2019. New tunes are on the way!
