How To Survive the Holiday Season Alone

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cincinnati chapter.

As you all probably already know, it’s cuffing season. The time of year when people get into relationships for a variety of different reasons with a variety of different intentions. Some of these relationships will survive the trials of winter, others won’t be so lucky. If you’re like me, you’re single and not getting into a relationship anytime soon. Here are a few tips on how to survive the holidays alone…

1. BUY YOURSELF SOMETHING: buying gifts is one of the best things about the holidays. You get to see the faces of your friends and family as you surprise them with things they have wanted all year! It’s always disheartening to not be in a relationship when you know you could buy the best gift for your significant other, BUT the best way to combat that is to buy yourself that pair of shoes you’ve had your eyes on for months, or a trip to the nail salon. It could be anything that you’ve been looking at for some time now. Go treat yourself, you deserve it!

2. START YOUR RESOLUTIONS NOW: Get a jump start to the new year and start a couple of your resolutions off strong now! Who know, you might just get into that habit before you really need to be in the habit.

3. SELF CARE: Remember to always be eating right (most of the time, ice cream is still a necessity) and to take care of yourself. Put on a face mask, slip into a fluffy robe (this is where you would buy one for yourself if you don’t have one already), and watch Love Actually. Try and avoid sad girl hours at all cost.

4. MAKE A PLAYLIST: My absolute favorite things to do when trying to get over the fear of being single, is to remind myself how much of a girl boss I am. My Girl Boss playlist has been playing on repeat since Thanksgiving! It gives me a weird sense of confidence I don’t have all the time. (highly recommend adding some Little Mix to yours!)

5. START A NEW HOBBY: Remind yourself that you can do anything you set your mind to. It might start off slow or go into a bit of a hiatus from time to time, but it’ll happen eventually. Start writing a book or a blog or whatever you might be interested in doing, but haven’t actually done yet. It’s good for the soul.
