Here at the University of Utah, students have already survived two weeks of school! For some, these weeks may have been more challenging than others’ (case in point: I returned to school healthy but developed a fever and possibly the flu before the first Friday). But, in order to make the most of this new semester (and the rest of the academic year), here are some reasonable and achievable resolutions to help you succeed in school!

1. Use a Planner

As my idol Leslie Knope’s favorite hobby, using a planner can greatly help with your academic success. I like to use a standard planner, but I also have friends that love bullet journaling. Whether you’re tracking your classes, homework, tasks, or extracurricular activities, a planner can help you stay on top of all of your responsibilities.

2. Get to the Gym

Exercise is a great way to relieve stress, and we all know that university life can be incredibly stressful at times. Even just going to the gym one more time than you’re accustomed to can help reduce your stress levels (and you might become ‘swole’ in the process). Sometimes going to the gym can be stressful, however, and if you find yourself feeling anxious at a public gym, try looking on Youtube for online guides and exercises programs that you can follow in the comfort of your home.

3. Get Involved

Although this piece of advice seems to surface on every college advice column, getting involved with clubs and organizations on campus can greatly help you succeed in college. Finding people who share similar hobbies or interests can help you feel connected on a large campus, and they might even encourage you to study every once in a while! But, be sure to not over-extend yourself. Getting involved is great as long as you are still able to give yourself enough time to devote to yourself and your classes.

4. Take Time for Yourself

Although this is something I need to work on myself, taking time for self-care is so important for maintaining your mental and physical health at any time, but especially so during a hectic semester. Try downloading meditation apps, practicing yoga, applying facemasks, getting out into nature, or giving back to the community to give yourself a break from school stresses.

Hopefully, these tips will help you crush this semester!
