The beginning of a semester is always an experience, no matter if it’s a person’s first or last semester in college. Start your semester off right with one of these “dino-mite” moods!

1. Oviraptor

Sometimes starting the new semester can be very rough. Maybe you accidentally got off on the wrong foot with a professor, or maybe you don’t know anyone in class and feel like an outcast. Similarly to the feathered dinosaur Oviraptor, you’ve been misjudged. Don’t worry, though. Stay true to yourself, and you’ll eventually be recognized for who you really are. At least you weren’t named for stealing eggs from other dinosaurs, when you were really just nesting them.

2. Velociraptor

A common sensation that students experience throughout college is feeling like a fake. You may relate to the Velociraptor, then; you feel like you fill a position that isn’t really true. Don’t be discouraged by this feeling! Remember that many people experience this. If you really want to be in your field, you can succeed! You’ll be a lot more genuine than the popular interpretation of a velociraptor. (If you’re interested, Velociraptors are a lot smaller than those seen in Jurassic Park. For the real deal, look at Deinonychus.)

3. Stegosaurus

For some, the beginning of the semester is a calm before the storm. The stress of classes and other aspects of student life hasn’t quite set in yet. If you are able to escape the worry that you should be doing something when there is nothing to do, you may be taking the time to enjoy life before everything becomes overwhelming. Taking a note from the life of a Stegosaurus, you make the most of this relaxing time. You take the time to smell the flowers. Stegosaurus may not have experienced the same stresses as a college student, but their slow approach to life can be a great way to make sure the semester starts off right.

4. Tyrannosaurus Rex

On another note, returning to classes may feel like returning to familiar ground. Maybe you know your professor, and feel like you’ve got a handle on the semester before it even starts. Like the “tyrant lizard king” (Isn’t that a cool name? Why do we ever shorten it to T. rex?), there’s not much that can knock you down right now. Enjoy this feeling while it lasts; it’s not a common experience as a student.

5. Parasaurolophus

While the start of the semester may not be the happiest time, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about getting back to college. One of the more pleasant experiences is catching up with friends. The first few weeks back are full of shouts from friends and acquaintances seeing each other across campus for the first time after break. We may not have head crests that allow for amplified greetings like Parasaurolophus, but those people most excited to see friends make do with what they have.

6. Maiasaura

Some people have a very different reaction to being reunited with friends. Rather than loudly proclaiming friendships, you may have a gentler way of expressing your happiness. Like the Maiasaura, you care for the people in your life. Not seeing them for weeks only increases the desire to show that you care, often in the form of food or advice about health. Your friends will definitely appreciate your show of affection, especially amidst the stress of starting classes.

7. Allosaurus

It may be that starting the semester isn’t too big of a deal for you. You may not necessary be thrilled to be back, but all your classes are sorted out and everything is moving along as planned. You may not be the Tyrannosaurus rex on campus. However, like an Allosaurus, you manage quite nicely. Everything is handled, and the world seems like a pretty nice place at the moment.

Semesters always bring surprising twists and turns, no matter what dinosaur you may be right now. Don’t go the way of the dinosaurs, though! College can be difficult, but don’t let it be a meteor for you. Make sure to stay happy and healthy, and may your spring semester go well!
