The Bullet Journal Supplies You Absolutely Need For the New Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Washington chapter.

New year, new me! Or, well, new bullet journal. With the start of a new year, many people have started a new journal for their DIY planner, while other people are just starting a bullet journal for the first time. No matter which category you fall in, this list can help you spice up the layout of your bullet journal, and fit all of your school supply needs as well. Most of these supplies can be found online at Amazon, or even the UW bookstore!

1. A Journal

This one seems like a no brainer, but choosing the right journal can be really hard. While any old journal will work as a bullet journal, traditionally a Moleskin or a Leuchtturm1917 have been used for bullet journaling. Gridded paper will save your life, as well as paper that won’t have any bleeding issues with pens. Both of these journals have thick paper, and come in multiple sizes with gridded pages. If you want a built in table of contents and numbered pages, the Leuchtturm1917 will be perfect for you!

2. Zebra Mildliners

Look no further for highlighters! The zebra mildliners now have over 20 different colors, all of them unique. The pastel pack has some of the more traditional, neon colors highlighters typically come in, but they also have warmer and cooler toned highlighters. These are dual tipped as well, with a highlighter on one side and a finer tip on the other, perfect for boxing or coloring things in.

3. Stabilo Fineliners

Felt tipped pens are perfect for doodling and writing lists! Stabilo fineliners come in all sorts of colors and packs. They are finelines, perfect for creating weekly spreads and to-do lists! These pens can also be bought individually, so if your red one starts running out of ink you can replace it easily! While these pens are a stationary staple, they are also insanely cute.

4. Stencils

For those who just cannot draw a good looking tree, this one is for you. My doodles always come out looking like messy scribbles, and stencils make my bullet journal look well put together. Using the stabilo’s and the stencils together gives me fun colored doodles that make my bullet journal stand out and help me stay organized.

5. Tombow Dual Brush Pens

The tombow dual brush pens are an excellent starter pen for anyway trying to learn to hand letter! These pens also have an intense range of colors. Using these as highlighters is always fun, and creating banners or titles with them is a great way to add a pop of color!

While none of these supplies are necessary to bullet journal, using them will definitely bring your spreads up a level and bring brighter colors into them. Bullet journaling can be an art form and expression in and of themselves, so getting creative with your supplies gives you room to be creative on the page!
