It’s no secret that we’re in the era of podcasts.
With so many people driving to and from work and looking for something fresh to listen to during busy work, it’s no surprise that podcasts have exploded over the past few years. Some podcasts focus on lifestyle, history, and news, but there are some podcasts that choose to focus on topics that are a bit… darker. If you’re looking for a weird podcast to give you some thought-provoking chills, take a look at these:
1. Lore by Aaron Menkhe

When “Because sometimes the truth is more frightening than fiction,” is the tagline of a podcast, you know before you even hit play that it’ll have you on the edge of your seat. Aaron Menkhe explores the darkest parts of world history in his award winning podcast, Lore. If you’re a history buff, or even have a small interest in mythological lore, give this one a listen. Menkhe takes a scholarly perspective on some of the craziest oddities we often don’t hear about. While some might think scholarly research would debunk myths… think again. It only solidifies some scary realities of humankind’s past. You can also check out the TV show version of the show on Amazon Prime. Menkhe himself still narrates the stories while actors portray the accounts.
2. Dirty John by Christopher Goffard
Another podcast turned TV show, Christopher Goffard’s Dirty John is a true crime podcast that explores the life of John Meehan. Meehan was a con artist and sociopath. Goffard outlines one of Meehan’s most significant relationships and the crimes that ensued. This one may not be as creepy as a campfire story, but true crime is always scary because it’s just that… true.
3. My Favorite Murder by Georgia Hardstark & Karen Kilgariff
Slight humor and true crime combine in this incredible podcast. Hardstark and Kilgariff analyze the aspects of both large and smaller “hometown” murders in their podcast. Episodes range from 30-120 minutes. Again– Hardstark and Kilgariff observe the realities of true crime and discuss it in most episodes. A small side note: each episode ends with the hosts’ signature sign-off, “Stay sexy, and don’t get murdered.” How could you not want to listen to something like that?
