How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Bride Wars. Nine. Do any of these movies sound familiar to you? Calling all Glee fans, how about Rachel Berry’s dance instructor, Cassandra July? Fitness lovers, have you heard of Fabletics? That’s right, Kate Hudson is an extremely talented woman with accolades all across the map. She’s written two books, starred in several films and founded her own clothing company. She even spent some time married to a guy named … Bellamy. That’s right, the only white building on this campus. Anyways, add mother to that list.

The 39-year old is no stranger to giving birth. Hudson already has two sons, Ryder, who just turned fifteen a couple of weeks ago, and Bingham, who is seven and a half. Her third significant relationship resulted in another child! Finally, we can add a daughter to that list … or can we?

Hudson and musically-talented boyfriend Danny Fujikawa welcomed Rani Rose to the world on Oct. 2. However, news just came out that may shock you. She is taking an extremely unconventional approach by raising the newborn as “genderless”. Some may call this unusual, confusing, or outright strange, but smart is another word to describe it! “We still don’t know what she’s going to identify as,” Hudson told AOL.com.

With the rapid rise in the LGBTQ+ community, along with constantly changing social standards, she is giving her daughter room to explore, make her own decisions and see what she feels is best for her life. While some may criticize her decision, particularly accusing her of “increasing the chances” she will identify as transgender in the future, it’s the first time that a celebrity as prominent as Hudson has publicly spoken about raising a “genderless baby”.

Hudson’s third Instagram post of the new year is a collage that has become commonplace when the calendars change. Her “Top 9 of 2018” is entirely composed of photos of, with, or related to her daughter Rani. Several other large Instagram accounts have commented on her decision, such as Entertainment Tonight (ET) and AOL Lifestyle. ET’s caption reads, “Kate Hudson is letting her newborn daughter be whoever she wants to be. Kate and her hubby are raising Rani Rose with a genderless approach until they ‘know what she’s going to identify as.’”

Despite being somewhat controversial, raising a genderless baby is a confusing topic as well. It can range from not putting any pronouns on the baby whatsoever, to just letting the child pick out their own clothes and gravitate towards activities and toys that interest them. She isn’t raising her daughter as a “they” or “them,” rather she referred to Rani as “she” and “her” several times before and after the news came out. Her approach is geared towards not doing anything “too feminine,” such as throwing a pink, sparkly dress on her or buying her a lifetime supply of Barbies before she learns how to walk on her own. Indeed, some girls who enjoy playing more masculine sports or picking a wrestler over a doll may be tomboys, or as we’ve seen so many times, it could be a sign that their biological gender doesn’t match what they feel inside. The world seems grateful that Kate Hudson is allowing her daughter to choose her own path.
