How to Enjoy Valentine’s Day When You’re Single

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

Once Christmas has passed and the new year has been rung, that only means one thing for your local drugstore…It’s time to put the Valentine’s Day display out. Now I know what you’re thinking, “It’s not even February, how can this already be out?” Believe me, if they’re willing to jump from Halloween to Christmas, they will certainly put the Valentine’s Day candy out before you can even swear off chocolate as a new year resolution.

I’m not sure about you, but seeing these displays make me think the same thoughts every single year.

  • “Ugh why do I never have anyone to spend Valentine’s Day with?”

  • “No one will ever buy me flowers.”

  • “Am I just going to eat that chocolate all by myself?”

But this year I’ve decided, is going to be different. This year Valentine’s Day is going to be about loving MYSELF and all of the good people I have in my life. I’ll buy myself some flowers! I”ll eat the bag of candy on my own! Because as RuPaul always says: “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love someone else? Can I get an Amen up in here?” (I know my fellow Drag Race viewers will feel me on this one).

Regardless if you watch Drag Race or not, if you just screamed “Amen!” at your screen, keep reading. Here a few easy ways to spend Valentine’s Day single and actually enjoy it!

Have a Gal-entine’s or Pal-entine’s Day

Who says Valentine’s Day is just for significant others? Valentine’s Day should be about celebrating everyone that you love in your life! Go out to dinner, see a movie, have a slumber party! There are so many ways to enjoy the evening with your girl squad or any of your fellow single pals.

Treat yo self!

Don’t forget about a little self-love this Valentine’s Day. It’s so important to take care of yourself and Valentine’s Day is the perfect night to do it. Do a face mask, take a bubble bath, read a book, listen to a podcast, go get your nails done, put on your favorite netflix show, buy the shoes! Do whatever is going to make you feel happy, healthy, and loved.

Wait until February 15th and get yourself some 75% chocolate!

We all know the best part about Valentine’s Day is heading to CVS the next day and picking up all the chocolate on sale. This is especially great if you’re like me and have a major sweet tooth. If you stock up now, you can satisfy your chocolate cravings for months and not have to break the bank for it. If that isn’t self-love, I don’t know what is!

Don’t forget to love yourself this Valentine’s Day, no matter what. And if there’s anything we’ve learned from this article, it’s that Parks and Recreation has some really good advice!
