Hi there,

To get to know me a little better, I am a freshman who is so far away from home sometimes I feel miserable. I try to keep myself active and busy, so I won’t be able to focus on the idea of my life at home. I’m writing this because whoever you are, I want you to understand that a lot of college students feel alone or sad and it is totally normal. When I came to college, I thought I’d never ever be completely alone, but I do find myself lonely sometimes. Even though there is an abundance of college students around me at the library or dining hall, that doesn’t mean I can’t feel this way.

Being alone isn’t necessarily bad, because we need the time to ourselves to just think and process what is happening in our lives. I want you to know that if you are ever feeling alone, it is best to talk it out and really understand why you are feeling that certain way. Maybe it’s because you haven’t been eating right, sleeping enough or even not trying hard enough to make friends. There are so many factors and emotions that contribute to how we see life and that is also normal.

Life is hard. Let me tell you. But this time, when you’re feeling like everything isn’t right or you don’t want to do anything, just remember that this isn’t the hardest thing you’ll ever experience in your life. Something that has really helped me mentally is thinking about making the best out of whatever you are doing. No matter what it is, just try to have fun and enjoy life while you can. We live on this earth as ourselves for only a lifetime, therefore making the best out of everything just makes life more positive.

Some people are having the best days of their lives, while others like you or me aren’t feeling our greatest. Some days we can give 80% to our work, and other days sometimes only 20% is how much we can give. Live each day to your fullest potential and make the best out of each day.

Best,

Amanda
