Good morning Upper East Siders! Girls, do I have news for you. Mark Pedowitz ~confirmed~ to TVLine that there is currently a discussion on rebooting Gossip Girl. Unfortunately, there is nothing known about what the reboot would entail, but a majority of the original cast is at least open to the idea of returning. Pedowitz stated how the show is dependent upon the involvement of original executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. The #inspo behind the reboot of Gossip Girl is to show how social media and the internet has changed significantly since the start of this ~fabulous~ series.
A majority of the original cast who got their start on the show took the “never say never” approach when asked about possibly reviving their roles as New York’s elite. In a recent interview with Variety, Blake Lively was still hesitant about the idea stating, “I’m looking to do something that I haven’t done yet, not something that I did,” although arguing that if the premise made sense she would be on board. Leighton Meester had a similar answer when asked about the show and had a pretty clear idea of what Blair would be up to since the series finale when talking to ELLE in February 2017. Penn Badgley is preoccupied as creepy Joe Goldberg in You on Netflix. Badgley commented, “I don’t think that could happen for maybe another 10 years because if you look at the shows that are being rebooted, they’re much older” when speaking with Marie Claire in September. Hold onto your headbands though ladies as Ed Westwick does not seem to be a fan of the idea at all. He feels like he “did so much with that character – it’s played out, man. It’s done” in an interview with Radio Times. Let’s just hope this isn’t a part of another one of Georgina Sparks’ games and that we can get a reboot ASAP.
XOXO Gossip Girl.
