Year after year there are countless new sex trends to be trying out in the bedroom with your partner. Trends with using new toys or trying out different positions are the perfect way to spice it up with in the bedroom. But what about the latest trend? Pegging has become one of the latest trends to come out of the woodwork. You aren’t too sure about it? We have you covered here at Her Campus for all your sexy needs!

So, what is pegging all about? Pegging is when a woman performs anal intercourse on her partner with the help of a strap on dildo. Now I know you’re probably thinking “that is not my cup of tea at all!” but trust me, it is not as daunting as it sounds. Where did the term pegging even come from and why is it still such an unknown term?

The concept of pegging first came to light seventeen years ago when sex columnist Dan Savage ran a competition asking his readers to coin the term in a more colloquial sense. While it is still viewed as a niche for many, with 45% of respondents in a Lovehoney survey not knowing what pegging meant. There is also a stigma attached to it as anal pleasure for a straight man is considered a taboo. In an article on Cosmopolitan, author and sex educator Tristan Taorimino commented on how “there are lots of stereotypes and myths about pegging, the most common being if you like it, you must be gay. You can just really love anal pleasure, and it won’t change your sexual orientation”. The author of The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women went onto further say that prostate stimulation, which is what pegging accomplishes in men, is a “gateway to amazing orgasms” for men.

Pegging is becoming more mainstream than people may even think. Since the release of the Fifty Shades of Grey book series and movies, which demonstrate untraditional and adventurous sex, it so no wonder as to why the term pegging keeps recurring. It’s not just chains and whips that are portrayed in popular culture, as hit TV series Broad City and box office success Deadpool both portrayed sex scenes with pegging. Furthermore, Lovehoney saw a sale increase of 200% in strap on’s over the past two years.

Not only is pegging a new and exciting move to try out in the bedroom, it is also great if you are into switching up roles in the bedroom. The premise of pegging has the girl as the dominate partner, rather than the submissive. This gives the woman a chance to take on a role that she may not have done before, which is more powerful. While pegging does offer men another form of pleasure and dominance for women, a study carried out in the Sex Roles Journal had some interesting results. The journal discovered that clinging to traditional gender roles could make partners feel less comfortable in the sheets. Further research by sexuality educator Dr. Charlie Glickman also shows that straight men who had tried pegging were more in tune with what their female partner needed from them during penetration.

So, who knows, pegging could be the sex position you have been missing out on all this time!
