On February 10, 2019 I turned 21. Unlike what most would think, I do not feel different or any more grown than I did when I was 20. I had an amazing birthday party with all of my closest friends surrounding me with bottles and bottles of champagne and any other liquor you could think of. Although I was surrounded by love, the impending doom of becoming a “real” adult was alot to take in.

Your age is not the only thing that changes when you turn 21. I noticed that my parents were starting to put even more pressure on me as they told me, “It was time to find my own way.” In the eyes of the state I am now a legal adult. My actions are now considered all of my own and their is no one  to blame if things go south. I also realized sooner or later I would have to pay my own, dare I say it, bills! Now I may sound negative, but there are also some really awesome things that come with turning 21. Buying my own liquor, going out to my first Happy Hour, and just a feeling of freedom that I never had before.

I always tried to rush to this point of my life. When I turned 16, I couldn’t wait to turn 18. When I turned 18, I couldn’t wait to turn 21 and now here I am. With this new era of my life comes some fun and exciting adventures to be had, but it also comes with some sad and hard lessons to learn. All in all I’m excited to document whatever adventures may come my way. Watch out because I am now 21, and a force to be reckoned with!

My name is Daria and I am currently a junior at SUNY Albany. I am studying biology and hope to, one day, become a nurse practitioner.
