You open Facebook and what do you see? A timeline littered with proposals, wedding photos, and pregnancy announcements. I mean seriously, how am I supposed to find all of the cute puppy videos amongst all this mushy-gushy stuff?
Don’t get me wrong. I am happy for all of my friends—and the Facebook friend randos I went to school with and never actually talked to in person—taking the next steps in their lives.
I am also in a committed, long-term, long-distance relationship. And I’ll be the first to say that when you know, you know. Two weeks after (finally) asking me out, my boyf tried to tell me he loved me. I panicked—naturally. And like I said, when you know, you know. I told him I loved him a week later. But when we’ve been together for 4 years, living 3,908 miles a part, and you’ve been dating this boy for 6 months, and I see an engagement photo, I only want to throw-up a little.
Perhaps I’m guilty of a little jealousy (and baby fever) now and then—forgive me. And, no, I’m not ready for a proposal and I’m 800 years away from being ready to be a parent. I mean seriously, most of us haven’t even graduated yet and idk about you, but have no idea what I’m doing with my life.
With that being said, let me repeat myself when I say I’m happy for you all. And for the rest of us, it’s okay. You don’t need to be at that place in your life. I’m not. When you’re ready to take that next step in your life, you and your SO will know. Just remember that everyone reaches these life stages at different times, despite what your Facebook timeline is telling you.
