Chance the Rapper just shared the story of how he met his fiancée and I’m not crying, you are. Today, he made a thread on Twitter to share the adorable story and started it off with a childhood picture of Kirsten Corley, his soon-to-be wife and the mother of his child, from 2003. The photo was taken the day Chance first saw Kirsten at one of his mother’s office parties. Chance said that he was not paying much attention until they were told to make way for an exclusive performance by Destiny’s Child. At this time, Chance said his memory comes back in a photographic manner. Instead of the icons, Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams, it was a group of young girls. The girls then delivered a lip-sync performance of “Independent Women.” “Now I’m locking eyes with the prettiest girl I ever seen on my almost-a-decade of life on Earth,” Chance recalled. I hope you’re just as moved as me at the idea of a nine-year-old tiny Chance star-struck by his future wife.
I didn’t think it was possible, but the story gets even sweeter. During the performance, Chance’s dad encouraged him to go join them and dance. At this time, Chance had won multiple talent shows and had a reputation as a young entertainer. However, Chance refused but not because he was nervous or didn’t want to steal the spotlight. Chance tweeted, “It’s because I knew I was gonna marry that girl. And I ain’t wanna jump the gun”. As if that wasn’t enough to melt our hearts, Chance also said “16 years later it’s happening. This weekend is the time and the place is my wedding. I’m gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny”. I’m sure someone could make a movie of their story someday. But, until that happens, I’ll just be re-reading the Twitter thread and probably tearing up.
