I have always been the person to look down on myself. I refuse to take compliments and I always sigh when I take a look in the mirror. Can we just be honest for a second? Every person on this planet, day-to-day, we as humans, are constantly choosing to deprive ourselves of self-love. Heck, we even ignore the love from our peers.
How sad is that?
Humans have been programmed to believe that there is such a thing as perfection when, in fact, nothing is perfect. For example, you see a girl walking down the street, poised and smiling. You must think, “wow she looks so happy and pretty.” She might be those things, but maybe she has a job she never wanted or suffers from an eating disorder. (Yes, we took a big jump. Points must be made!) You never know what is happening in another person’s life. As we all know insecurities run through our veins.
Upsetting… but, true.
I have dreams of becoming a dainty, nice, and slender woman. But, maybe that just isn’t me? Maybe, I should accept who I am before I start making any drastic changes.
As I was sitting around, exploring Youtube videos on ‘spring lookbooks’ and ‘easy simple skincare routines’ I realized that I am a foolish woman. What makes me think that looking at other girls who probably have the same insecurities I do, will help me become a better, maybe even prettier version of myself?
Looking to other people for inspiration on who you want to be is okay when it involves your values and such. But, when you turn to Instagram and celebrities for inspiration on exterior attributes… that is when you have taken a wrong turn.
Love yourself before you mess yourself. Know who you are and what you like before you start thinking you enjoy what another person has or is. Everyone is different. What’s the point of trying to be the same as someone else?
