Let’s Support Women’s Organizations!

March is Women History Month! March has been about celebrating women from all backgrounds. Women have always been at the forefront of movements throughout history. This month, we are highlighting four organizations that are empowering girls and women. Prepared to be inspired! 

 

Global Girls Alliance

 

 

In October, Former First Lady Michelle Obama and The Obama Foundation launched the Global Girls Alliance to empower adolescent girls around the worldthrough education. Through the program, the organization hopes to inspire, empower and connect grassroots leaders to each other. The organization will help fundraise for the specific organizations through GoFundMe. The organization hopes to inspire and challenge young people in the developed world to join their movement. 

This Thursday, The George Washington University Black Student Union will be hosting a Community Service Event to support the Global Girls Alliance. The event will be held from 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in MSSC 209.

Lone Star Parity Project 

Lone Star Parity Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and non-partisan online publication dedicated to sharing the stories of women and femmes involved in Texas politics with hopes of bringing gender parity across all levels of public office. The organization founders are Brooke López and Adrianna Maberry.

Period

 

 

Period is a global youth powered non-profit that strives to provide for menstruators in need through service, education, and policy. The organization was founded by Nadya Okamoto and Vincent Forand in 2014 when they were high school students. Period now has a nationwide network of over 300 campus chapter!

YesSheCanCampaign 

YesSheCanCampaign is a 501(c)(3) youth-led non-profit organization that empowers, inspires and shares the stories of girls and young women who are overcoming adversity while striving to complete their education. The organization uses live events and technology to provide educational resources and professional development to girls and young women nationwide. The organization has reached over 1,000 students nationwide, won four national awards, volunteered over 9,000 hours and opened two chapters since founded in December of 2016.

Zaniya is a junior at GW majoring Political Science with a minor in Human Services and Social Justice. She is the Founder/CEO and Executive Director of YesSheCanCampaign a youth-led 501(c)(3) organization that works to provide educational resources and professional development to girls and young women nationwide. She is a Corps Member for Jumpstart and Community Service Chair for GWU Black Student Union. She is a 1,000 Dreams Fund Student Advisory Board Member. Her mission is to inspire others to keep climbing!
Isabella grew up in Boston and is currently a student at The George Washington University studying International Business and Chinese. Her dream job is working as a journalist in New York, and she hopes to travel all over the world and study abroad in Shanghai. You can find her taking walks with her three Labradoodles or doing yoga with friends.
