Let’s face it: winter has taken its toll on all of us. Now that it’s officially spring, the sun is peeping out and we can feel a little more motivated, as we look forward to the coming summer (and end of classes!). Here are just a few of the songs that I play to pump up my spirits and get me going when I’m feeling unmotivated, defeated, or just bored.

LizzoGood as Hell

This upbeat tune is full of self-love, sass, and getting over the guy who said you weren’t good enough. My current anthem to motivate me to live my best life and do whatever I want!

Frank SinatraMy Way

This classic is a long-standing favourite of mine. We’ve all had troubles in life, and no one’s life is perfect, but my goal is to say that at the end of it all, I am proud of everything I’ve accomplished because I worked so hard for it. Success isn’t something you compare to other people’s lives; success is how you defined and lived your own life.

U2 Angel of Harlem

Nothing puts me in the summer mood as instantly as this song. This jazzy rock anthem is full of heart and soul and gets me singing and dancing.

The KillersGlamorous Indie Rock and Roll

As simple as it is, the title says it all. If you love indie rock and roll as much as me, this is the song that celebrates us and the music.

PassengerLife’s for the Living

This song got me through a lot of my most anxious days. Passenger’s whole view of life and people has brought peace to me in times when I was so overwhelmed with fear of the future. For the calm and serene summer days, this and all of his songs are meditative, light-hearted, and beautiful.

New RadicalsYou Get What You Give

This is a classic hit about not staying in the status quo and living the “radical” young life that challenges the social norms. This is especially a good reminder for uni kids when we feel the pressure to follow specific career paths.

Avicii, Sandro CavazzaWithout You

Getting over a breakup? This song. You can do anything you want without that person, and there’s a kind of vengeful rebellion in that.

ABBA When All Is Said And Done

Like “My Way”, this song is about the accomplishments we’ve achieved and recollecting on the good times during ABBA’s musical career.

Nina SimoneFeeling Good

Her smooth and sultry voice is enough, but this song (which I’m sure you’ve heard before), makes me feel empowered, confident, and self-reliant in a beautiful world.

George Ezra Pretty Shining People

This whole album, since its debut in 2018, has been my upbeat, fun-loving album to listen to. It always puts me in the happy summer mood. This song is catchy, but it’s also about overcoming our anxieties and troubles to focus on loving each other and simply enjoying life.

Kickstart your playlist and get ready for exams… because we’re so close to summer!
