9 Things To Do When Your Roommate Has Their Partner Over

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Geneseo chapter.

I am sure many people have been awkwardly sexiled by their roommate at one point in their lives. For those unaware, to be sexiled means to be kicked out of your room while your roommate has sex. However, I think of it as more of a feeling of uncomfortableness any time your roommate might have their significant other over. They might not even be having sex, but if you don’t feel comfortable to be in the same room as them, then you definitely have felt the same pain I have.

During one of these moments, I decided to be productive and write a list of the different things I have done when I was sexiled.

Do school work

This is one of the more productive ways of wasting time while being locked out of your room. If you are lucky enough to have your work on you, then good for you! If you are unlucky and your books are in the room, I guess you’ll have to look at some of my other options.

Watch Netflix

This could also be difficult if whatever you watch Netflix on is stuck in your room. If you do have access to Netflix, there are so many great shows! Maybe you could even find one from our previous article on our favorite Netflix originals!

Read a Book

This does not have to be reading for school. Go grab a good old-fashioned book to read for pleasure. Maybe you’ll experience more of it than your roommate.

Go Exercise

If you are wearing appropriate clothes or have access to them, heading to the gym or a workout class is a great way for you to pass the time!

Go Eat

While this is sometimes the complete opposite of exercising, sometimes some ice cream is exactly what you need when you feel lonely.

Sit and Cry

If you’re feeling extra lonely, give yourself a few minutes to cry. Then pick your chin up! You will find someone one day and possibly sexile your roommate!

Lay on your Friend’s Floor and Complain

Nothing is better than venting a bit when you’re tired of feeling uncomfortable around a couple or being kicked out of your room with no warning.

Run if you hear Sounds

Sadly, there might be times when you think being in the other room is far enough. If it’s not, run! Go do one of the other activities!

Talk to Your Roommate

After a whole list of serious and comical reactions to being sexiled, the best advice I can give you is to talk to your roommate about how you are feeling, especially if you’re feeling this way often. Your roommate should appreciate the honesty. Although it will be hard, just start off slow and avoid being accusatory. If you need someone else to be there, be really careful to make sure you are not ganging up on the unsuspecting roommate. When you build up the courage, good luck! I know you can do it!

Although I hope this list of activities to do when sexiled makes you laugh, I really do hope you follow the last piece of advice. Don’t make a living situation awkward. Have a healthy conversation.
