Spring Cleaning Essentials

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DU chapter.

It’s finally that time of year again. We can leave the Winter Quarter slump behind us and bounce back into the groove we love and cherish. For me, one of the best ways to feel renewed along with the blossoming flowers is cleaning. I know, I know, so many people don’t enjoy cleaning, but TBH, it can be very satisfying and rewarding. A clean space is a clean mind. Without clutter you can easily find what you’re looking for and relax in a visually pleasing environment instead of needing to leave your home to find comfort in an aesthetic. Make your own space clean and beautiful for yourself!

The Basics

First, it’s best to begin with your usual cleaning routine, however often that may be… do it today!

Declutter the Kitchen

You may think of this often and ignore it, but going through your kitchen helps with future cooking. Checking expiration dates and looking for missing spices or snacks can help you with your next grocery list to stock up for the year!

Laundry

College students are not known for keeping up with their laundry. Sure, the basic loads of clothes or towels here and there, but this spring you should make sure to clean your bed sheets (pillow cases, sheets, comforter– the works!), blankets, and kitchen towels.

Untouched Spaces

Look around your living space while cleaning your basics. Look for areas you don’t clean often. For example, many people ignore their fridges, stoves, ovens, ceiling fans, and much more. So, take a peek in every corner and really give your space a good cleaning. Dust is never good for the soul.

Personal Items

The kitchen may be decluttered, but what about those personal files? Do you keep track of receipts, account information, or maybe your taxes? It’s time to go through your paperwork, including old school work, important documents, and old papers.

Organize for fun

Remember that cleaning is a time for regeneration through organizing and decluttering, so don’t forget to play some tunes and jam out when cleaning. Make it fun for yourself!
