So, last Wednesday I attended the Virginia March for Life. It was the very first Virginia March for Life and it was held in Richmond by the state capital building. It was full of hundreds of men, women, and children excited to support and protect the unborn. Whole families came out. Children played in the open grass field while the older adults listened intently to speakers. Once we finally walked around the block it was beautiful seeing everyone come together for such a great cause. We walked, laughed, and chanted together- young and old.

Myself and group of girls from the Regent’s Student for Life club (follow them on Instagram @regentusfl) got into a car headed up to Richmond. It was a car ride full of fun tunes and great laughs. Arriving at the capital elicited the same excitement. Everyone was in a happy and positive mood. The weather was fantastic too. It was a nice, warm, sunny day with a slight breeze. It was the perfect day for a march.

The march was put on by the same group that puts on the big March for Life that takes place in Washington, DC every January. Thousands of people from all over the United States come to stand for life. The march that took place last Wednesday in Richmond was held in response to the legislation that was introduced by Senator Katy Tran. This legislation that would allow for abortions once the baby was out of the womb- essentially infanticide. And unfortunately, the Virginia governor, Governor Northam, endorsed it. This was an essential Mach because as pro-lifers we had to let our leaders know that life is important. We had to let them know that we value life.

The first part of the march was a rally where we heard many speakers. The speakers included Melissa Ohden, a survivor of a saline infusion abortion.; Ryan Bomberger, founder of The Radiance Foundation; Jeanne Mancini, President of March for Life; Felicia Pricenor, Associate Director of the Virginia Catholic Conference; Olivia Gans Turner, President of the Virginia Society for Human Life; and Victoria Cobb, President of The Family Foundation. They spoke about life and it’s importance. They also discussed some of the new legislation and how we ourselves could help. One of them is calling or writing your representative. We vote for these people to do and make decisions that we believe in, so we must hold them accountable.

I truly enjoyed the march. It was one of the most positive events I have ever been to. I can’t wait for the next one.
