Women On Screen I Am Currently In Love With

I have only just recently gotten into “Mad Men,” despite debating the fact again and again over the years; I was won over by Elisabeth Moss’ character Peggy Olson. When I first started the show, I was bothered that the men were so…like men. Especially knowing how unprogressive it was in terms of equality for women, I was nervous about whether I would be able to take watching the blatant sexism and disrespect of women. But then I realized Peggy Olson sort of hated it, too, and was probably going to murder in cold blood the next man who even dared to glance her way. And I began to think that’s sort of the point of the show.

I was sort of right, though she hasn’t murdered anyone yet (but I’m only on season 2), and I’m literally obsessed with Elisabeth Moss at this point. Especially after seeing her striking, but brief, performance in “Us” last weekend, I can say she is truly a rejuvenating actor whose uniqueness makes me want to scream out how much I love her face. Her ability to play a completely privileged white bitch in “Us” and then turn around and play a confident, powerful inspiration in “Mad Men” makes me genuinely look forward to more from her.

When I saw “Us,” of course I was completely freaked out and thought I would probably be murdered in my own home that night, but I was also amazed and overwhelmed by how excellent the acting was, especially that of Lupita Nyong’o who played the main character in the movie. Her ability to play both sides of the story so seamlessly and separately yet in a way that intertwined and overlapped all at once confused and amazed me. It also made me wonder how they cast the literal perfect person for the part of Adelaide and Red; no one else would have done as good a job as she did.

Beyond that, I am overall inspired by who she is. The powerful way she holds herself, for one, and her entire presence on screen. It’s refreshing. She is everything I could ever imagine being. It was exciting to see her in this film after her role in “Black Panther” last year, and I’m pretty positive she deserves many more leading roles in the future.

I was initially sceptical of Kiernan Shipka taking over the role of Sabrina (shame on me), who was originally from the TV show “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” But that was just because it was such a childhood favorite. But honestly, the new Sabrina Spellman in “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is such a badass. The show is terrifying in its own right, and I am so happy about it. It’s so dark and Satanic which oddly gives it something so appealing that hasn’t been thoroughly explored in any other TV show I’ve seen.

Kiernan plays the role of Sabrina in a fascinating, multifaceted way; she is young, smart, adorable and has such a strong opinion and beliefs. The new season of “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” was released on Netflix Friday, April 5, and I plan on spending all weekend watching it. I am so ready to be inspired by Kiernan again.
