On April 2nd, 2019, British rock band Catfish and the Bottlemen made their way to Columbus, Ohio to play to over 2,000 people at Express Live. Many were waiting in line all day to see the band preform, as the last time they were in Columbus was in 2017.
Opening up for the band was The Worn Flints, a psychedelic rock group from Columbus, Ohio. The lead singer’s liveliness was a great way to kick off the night, as he lit up the crowd with his high energy antics.
Catfish and the Bottlemen started off their performance with the first single off of their new record, Longshot. The crowd sang back the words, even though the song had only recently been released.
In the middle of a song, singer Van McCann’s microphone stopped working, yet the band had a speedy recovery. It seemed as if the entire mishap was planned. They quickly got it working again and finished with no trouble.
Van’s performance was so energetic that it even led him to knock a speaker off stage, which left the crowd in awe as he kept his cool and kept singing with such ease and confidence. He made his way around the stage throughout their whole set, making sure to create a connection with everyone in the crowd.
A memorable moment of the night was when Van sang Hourglass, a song off of their first record. Everyone else in the band left the stage and McCann performed with his acoustic guitar, letting the audience take over and sing most of the song for him.
The band ended their set with a longer rendition of their song Tyrants, leaving the crowd with an amazing energy. McCann walked off the stage so effortlessly, as he left his guitar by the mic stand and gave one single wave to the crowd
