7 Tips to Make Exam Season More Bearable

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Queen's U chapter.

Sometimes it seems like the final stretch of the year – exam period – will drag on forever. It’s hard to make it through exams without feeling like you’re losing your sanity. Here are some helpful tips to help you break up the exam blues.

1. Take a “me day”

Take a day (or part of a day) to spend alone doing something you enjoy. Go get your nails done, enjoy a bath, meditate, or do anything else that relaxes you. Just make sure you take some time to get some space to yourself.

2. Read a book

Even if it’s just for half an hour, reading something that you’re not obligated to read for school is a great way to clear your head.

3. Take a nature walk

Go for a walk and enjoy some time outside in nature while also getting some exercise. In Kingston, Lemoine Point Conservation Area is a great place to escape to if you have a car.

4. Mix up your study location

Instead of spending all day every day in Stauffer, try a new spot. Check out one of the many cute cafés downtown, or even try out a different library to mix things up.

5. Hang out with your roommates

Exams can be a stressful, isolating time, so make sure you spend time hanging out with friends to keep yourself sane. It’s easy to do just that with roommates because you already live with them!

6. Go shopping

Retail therapy can solve any problem, exam stress included. Go browse the shops downtown or make the trek to the mall. I highly recommend browsing the home goods at Indigo as a chill study break.

7. Go out for dinner

Although it’s the end of the year and your bank account balance is likely dwindling, it’s a great time to treat yourself and spend time with friends.

I hope these tips help you get through exams. Remember, they’ll be over before you know it!
