- Stay in an AirBnB

Most of the time you can find an Airbnb that is a substantial amount cheaper than a hotel that is just as nice. Airbnb’s also gives you more of a feel of the area that you are staying and not just the same hotel room you see in every state.
Other Tips
– Look for ones with a high rating with a lot of reviews, the more the better.
– Stay with a super host, this means more people have used them and they aren’t new to the scene.
– ALWAYS share your location with someone who is not on the trip with you! (just to be extra safe :) )
- Travel in the Offseason

When trying to find a place to stay try traveling on a weekday, weekend prices can double or triple the rates of that in the middle of the week know the popularity of the area, for instance, New Orleans during Mardi Gras is going to be hella expense but if you were to travel June-September, the Airbnb would be significantly cheaper.
- Try to travel by land *if possible*

Although it might not be the quicker option, it is more cost efficient and can potentially save you hundreds of dollars.

– If you are traveling by car, and across states check the gas prices state by state see where it will be cheaper to fill up your tank and always start the trip with a full tank
– AVOID TOLLS AT ALL COST ( no pun intended). Although avoiding tolls may cause the drive to be slightly longer, it actually makes the trip, in most cases, cheaper.
– If you are traveling by train, only bring carry on luggage, therefore it is embedded in your ticket (like you would if you were flying except trains allow you to have bigger luggage).

- Avoid Expensive Restaurants as Much as Possible

Pack sandwiches, drinks, and snacks for the road and if you’re staying somewhere that has a kitchen, go grocery shopping when you get there and cook as many meals as possible. Although it doesn’t sound fun, your bank account will thank you!

– Be sure to check out the prices of the places around you. Most of the time you can find a local dinner that will help you experience more of the city, such as a $0.99 pizza place in NYC.
– It also doesn’t hurt the bank to take a trip or two to Mcdonalds or Taco Bell…
- Do your Research on what Activities are Happening

Most of the time you could find local concerts, street festivals or other events happening for free or a low price such as at museums, art exhibits, gardens, and zoos!

– Walking around the city you are in is always free and it will give you a chance to see what the place has to offer and experience the local culture.
– Visit local parks and beaches.

Most places offer student discounts, so do your research or simply ask! Asking doesn’t hurt, the worst answer you’ll get is no but the best could be saving money!!
Other Tips
– Use coupon! Local ads contain coupons to shops and restaurants that will help you save that dollar to spend elsewhere.
– If you, your family, or the people you are traveling with has AAA, AAA offers different discounts to the most randomness things.

The more people you have the more fun you have, but not just that. The more people you have, the cheaper your split of the trip gets. You can split the price of where you’re staying, gas, or the large pizza with double pineapple you’ll order!
