On 13th April 2019, Taylor Swift made a mysterious 13-day countdown on her website, sending fans into a frenzy wondering what exactly was going to happen on April 26th?!
Well, we have finally been given the answer we were waiting for: Taylor released a new song titled ‘ME!’ at midnight Eastern Time (5am here in the UK), and here are some reasons why we think you should listen to it.
1. It’s a collab with Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco

As a HUGE Taylor Swift fan myself, I am possibly a little biased when telling you to go and listen to her new song. However, if there’s one way I can entice people who don’t love Taylor quite as much as I do to give this song a try, it’s by telling you that Brendon Urie features on the track, and who doesn’t love Brendon Urie?! Whether he takes you back to your emo days of hours spent listening to I Write Sins Not Tragedies, or whether you’ve had High Hopes stuck in your head countless times over the past few months, his presence on this track should definitely convince you to give it a listen.
2. The music video is super fun
There are appearances from Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson (the cats), rainbows, unicorns, choreography that looks like it was adopted from the hit musical Hairspray… need I say more?

3. It’s catchy AF
This song kind of reminds me of Shake It Off in that it’s just shameless feel-good pop. It’s a bit too easy to sing and dance along to, and the tune is bound to get stuck in your head (it’s been stuck in mine since the first time I heard it).

4. It’s actually got a lovely message behind it
In Taylor’s own words “‘ME!’ is a song about embracing your individuality and really celebrating it, and owning it. I think that with a pop song, we have the ability to get a melody stuck in people’s heads, and I want it to be one that makes them feel better about themselves.”
Who doesn’t need to hear that they’re amazing just the way they are every now and again?

5. It’s a departure from the reputation era
era-Taylor was all about being dark and edgy. She embraced the label of ‘snake’ that the media and general public had thrown on her and it was all a bit hardcore (for Taylor Swift, that is). But the beginning of the music video for ME! shows a snake transform into butterflies, which signifies the end of the reputation era and the beginning of a softer, butterfly-and-pastel filled era. This feels more like the Taylor we know and love and, although reputation was fun, I’m excited for this next chapter.
