Four Reasons Why Being a Sophomore in College is Way Better Than Being A Freshman

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

For LMU’s class of 2022, sophomore year has officially begun! It is so exciting to be back on the bluff after three long months of summer, and I know I am not the only person who is excited to not be a freshman anymore. Here are four reasons why sophomore year is going to be even better than freshman year!

You aren’t new anymore

A year ago, us sophomores were just learning our way around campus and trying to mingle with and get to know as many people as we can. But now, things aren’t unfamiliar or awkward anymore. We all have our friend groups, and we know exactly where everything is. Pulling up to campus on move-in day was thrilling, not terrifying, as we anticipated all of the memories that we are going to make this year!

No more dorm living

All the freshman at LMU get to experience dorm-style living, and although it is definitely part of the whole freshman experience, I personally am so happy that I am not living in a residence hall anymore. Most sophomores are either living in apartments on campus, or near campus, with living rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms – that are not shared with 30+ people. This is a major upgrade and really makes us college kids feel like we are truly adulting.

You have mastered balancing school time and social time

Personally, one of the hardest parts of freshman year was figuring out when to do my school work and when I was able to hang out with my friends. This is more difficult in college than high school because when living in a dorm, there are always people around and constant socialization. By the time I finished freshman year, I knew exactly how to balance my time. This time management skill is something that is very important and is perfected over the course of freshman year.

Less stress – in all areas

Sophomore year is a perfect time to take a break during your college experience and figure out what you really want to do with your life. Being a break from the hectic process of getting settled freshman year and before one’s career seriously takes off, sophomore year is a great time for one to try to experience new things and discover more about yourself.

Hi, my name is Domenica, I am 21 years old, and I am from the Chicago suburbs in Illinois. I am a junior at LMU and love it! I am currently a Psychology major with a double minor in Spanish and Business Administration and am really enjoying it so far. I joined the HerCampus team during the second semester of my freshman year and love writing articles in all areas for everyone to enjoy.
