An Open Letter to a Senior During Their Last First Weeks of College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

To all the seniors experiencing their last first weeks of college,

Well, we’ve made it – kind of. Sure we have to make it through this year, and for some maybe grad school, but we are finally – and sadly — at the beginning of the end of our undergraduate experience.

Some of us may be excited for the end to be so near, but to be honest, I could not be sadder.

While throughout these last four years I thought I had reached adulthood, in all truthfulness, college has just been a pre-adult bubble that shielded me from the real world. Where else besides college can you not have to go to work (aka class) on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and it be socially acceptable to hit the town with your friends any night you wish.

But even besides all the fun you can have, it is equally sad to say goodbye to all the friends you made. In a short nine months, there is a possibility you will not live in the same state, or even country, as the best friends you have spent the last four years getting so close to.

Looking back, my advice for underclassmen would be to never take anything for granted, say yes to experiences that you think you’re too scared to try and always be true to yourself.

So, here is to all the lasts we will face together this year. Here’s to the last Saturday football game day as an undergrad, to the last final exam you will ever take, the last all-nighter you’ll make at the library, and all the last hoorahs that will come as well.

The last three years already went by too fast, so take a moment to breathe and soak it all in because it will be over before we know it.
