Petite Girls’ Guide to the Perfect Pants

Updated Published
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

One of the biggest struggles when shopping for a petite body type is finding the perfect pair of pants. Finding the perfect pair of pants that don’t need any alterations can be a challenge. But, as a petite girl myself, I’ve tried many different brands; I’ve learned some tips and tricks for finding the best jeans for my figure that don’t require a tailor.

Here are my picks for the best styles and brands for petite girls:

Go high and crop it

High-rise pants are a petite girl’s best friend because they accentuate your legs, making you seem taller and your legs longer. I recommend the combination of skinny, high-rise pants to give the full effect.

For the tall girls who have experienced a significant growth spurt, cropped pants are all too familiar. However, petite women can use this trend to their advantage. Cropped pants, which are shorter-length jeans, can be the exact length needed for a petite body type. Also, if you’d like to elongate your legs, cropped pants with a higher waist would be your best choice.

If you’re looking to incorporate these simple tips into your wardrobe, brands like Urban Outfitters and Abercrombie & Fitch have trendy styles you can choose from.

Black it out

Apart from being a chic color, black is known for slimming your legs and making you appear taller. Wearing a monochromatic black outfit with a pop of color, like a hot pink blazer, will not only make you feel ready for some serious business but it will also make you feel like you’ve grown a few inches.

Loft has many styles made for petite women that you can choose from.

Vertical lines for the vertically challenged

Flared pants tend to have some kind of vertical design, which is not the best option for a petite body. Patterned and flared pants can be tricky when trying to elongate legs. That is why I recommend a pair of jeans that have stripes on both sides such as these from Abercrombie & Fitch, as a more subtle version of a print.

However, if you are still locking to rock the vertical design style to the fullest, I suggest trying these jeans, also from Abercrombie & Fitch, that have pinstripes and are both high-rise and ankle length.

My favorite brands

With the fashion scene becoming more diverse regarding different figures and sizes, it’s not impossible to find brands catering to petite women. My favorites are Loft, Abercrombie & Fitch and New York & Company. Both the Loft and New York & Company have specific lines of pants for petite women. However, even though Abercrombie & Fitch does not, they do have different styles of jeans like high-rise and ankle cut, which could be the ultimate pair of jeans for any petite woman.

All bodies are different, but with so many styles and trends accessible to petite women, it is possible to avoid that trip to the tailor.
