Happy Birthday to me! I turned 19 this past weekend. As I reflect on this past year, I thought I’d share 18 things I learned during my 18th year.

Take advantage of opportunities

Even if I’m hesitant or nervous to go for something, it never hurts to try and seize the opportunity.

How lucky I am to go to college

Especially somewhere like UB, there’s an immense amount of opportunities, experiences, and culture here.

It’s okay to walk away

I learned that walking away isn’t always the same as “giving up,” especially if it’s for the sake of putting my overall health first.

It’s okay to keep some things to yourself

Sometimes the things you keep to yourself help you grow the most. I know more of what ideas, thoughts, and feelings to share, and those to figure out for myself. Outside opinions can complicate what could’ve been simple.

Pineapple pizza is actually delicious

Had it for the first time a couple of months ago, I’ve truly been missing out.

If it doesn’t make you happy, it’s not worth it

It could be anything; friends, relationships, a job. Happiness is everything.

Hard work goes a long way

It’s almost always noticed and appreciated by others.

Do the hard things first

It’s much easier to do the hard homework or chores first. You have the most energy for it physically and mentally.

Stop being so apologetic

I’m learning to stop saying sorry for how I feel, my feelings are just as valid as everyone else.

How to save money

I’ve learned to budget my money and make smart purchases. Although, I’m still not perfect.

You don’t need the approval of others

I’m really bad at making decisions, so I always run to someone when I need help deciding on something. I’m learning to trust myself more and make decisions alone.

How to enjoy coffee on its own

I’ve grown to like coffee with just milk, a big milestone!

To be conscious of what I eat, but not too conscious

I’ve learned to make healthy decisions and to be more conscious of what I’m eating. However, I also learned to not overly obsessed about it, life is too short!

How to be alone

I’ve learned to be comfortable with spending time by myself whether it be at the library, working out or eating alone.

How wonderful home is

Coming back home from college, I saw where I lived through a different perspective and appreciated the little things about home that I never noticed before.

I have the best friends and family

I’m very lucky to have friends who care about me and love me in college and I’m lucky to be able to come home to a loving family.

Communication is key

In all relationships, friendships, and life in general.

To let go and have ~fun~

Life is short!!! These years should be dedicated to adventures, spending time with friends and doing what I love.

Here’s to 19!
