It’s been a few weeks since school has started and classes have shifted to overdrive. I don’t know about you, but my classes are full of readings, projects, papers—you name it. Somehow in between all of the chaos, I’m able to make the most out of the semester and feel fulfilled without overworking myself. Here are a few tips and tricks on how to not burnout this semester.

Make Everyday Lists

The name of the game is staying organized. Making a to-do list of things you need to accomplish that day will help guide your way through your day. It can be as simple or as complicated as you need it to be. Here’s how mine usually look:

TODAY

-class

-do homework at the student center for two hours (Magazine Editing and Fashion Styling)

-Target

-shower

-date night (8pm)

Having an outline of my day makes it less overwhelming, especially if you know you have a full day ahead of you. Take 15 minutes out of your morning to write a to-do list.

Set Reminders

Personally I know I have the worst memory ever. Even though I write down all my homework and little notes for myself in my journal, I’ll still always forget something. Setting reminders on your phone for even the littlest thing, like picking up your mail, will help you so much.

Make Time for Your Friends/Family/Yourself

The saying, “you make time for the people you care about” is so true. No matter how stacked up you are with homework and projects, you have time. It’s important to set your priorities straight, but you need to take your mind off of the stress. Whether that means having dinner with your family, catching up with friends or spending an hour at the gym, you need that little pause to get you back on your grind. Also, never feel bad for taking a little break, your mental health always comes first!

Get Enough Sleep

This seems easier said than done. Juggling school, work and a personal life is difficult and sometimes sleep isn’t an option. Always listen to what your body needs. You need to rest throughout the night to process all the stimulation from your day. Getting a good night’s rest will help you perform better the next day. Getting into the habit of better time management and organization will help you make sure you get everything done during the day time so you can get that sweet seven to eight hours of beauty rest.

Ask for Help

School is hard. Relationships are hard. Balancing your life may seem impossible. You can’t expect to do everything on your own. It’s important to have a close group around you that you know and trust. It’s okay to ask for help, whatever help you may need. I’ve definitely asked my friends if they could help me with projects, with life advice and everything in between.
