Fall Recipes That Aren’t Apple Pie

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

The leaves are falling and yellowing, the weather is calling for a light jacket, and apples are dangling from their branches. Yes, it’s everyone’s favorite time of year: Autumn. With Fall comes apple picking, where you’re left with dozens of apples – sometimes more than you can eat. And I don’t know about you, but I am tired of apple pie. It’s great and all, but this season it’s time to switch it up. Here are some awesome recipes to use up those apples that aren’t your run of the mill apple pie.

Apple Butter

If you love jam and or jelly on your toast, this is the recipe for you! It’s similar to applesauce but cooked longer, giving it its deep golden color. If you’re shivering right now at the thought of apples mixed with butter, that’s not what this recipe is. The apples when cooked long enough get the consistency of spreadable butter, making a scrumptious treat!

Apple Chips

If you love dried fruit and healthy alternative snacks, then you’ll love this. Store-bought dried fruit and fruit chips can be costly, but with your stock of apples, you can make your own for a fraction of the cost. You can also customize them with any seasoning you want, whether it be cinnamon for fall vibes or salt for something savory. You will need patience for this recipe, but you definitely won’t regret it!

Apple Pork Chops

If you’re craving something savory, then this recipe will surely satisfy your craving. Similar to pineapple with ham, the apples combined with the pork create a warm comfort meal with a bit of zest to it. Make this your entree and follow up with one of the sweeter apple recipes in this article and you’ll fly through those apples.

Apple Dumplings

I know what you’re thinking, but these aren’t your typical dumplings. These are filled with soft apples and a gooey cinnamon feeling and drizzled in more sauce. These are similar to apple pie but don’t come with that hard, sometimes dry crust. It’s tender and melts in your mouth, everything you could ever want in a dessert.
