I feel like there is a constant debate circling around men and women alike: are beauty subscription boxes really worth it? Well, you have come to a reliable critic. Here is my take on beauty subscription boxes and the impact they have had on my life:

Since freshman year of high school, which is now six years ago (sheesh!), I have been subscribed to Ipsy, a quote on quote “glam box” that delivers to your door monthly. Now, in high school I was quite the makeup snob, much to my mother’s demise, and I was absolutely obsessed with the beauty world. I absolutely loved buying and trying new products and making art with makeup. Ipsy is what really developed my skills and ignited my cosmetic interests (I am still determined to have my own makeup brand one day – how cool would that be?). While I was purchasing my own makeup on the side, simply because of my infatuation and my consistent flow of babysitting money, Ispy allowed me to dip my feet into the makeup world and try the latest and hottest brands on the market. I remember my older sister being envious of the pretty pink package that arrived on our doorstep each month, sitting at my bedside, begging me to show her my new products. She even stole some of the items occasionally if I daresay. Ipsy does not only provide makeup goods, but its services also extend to, hair, skin, body, beauty tools, etc. Not only this, but it is always accompanied by the cutest travel sized cosmetic bag. In my opinion, subscribing to Ipsy is totally worth it. Not to mention, you can also rack up points by rating your products and get tons of discounts on full size items. You really can’t beat it.

Because of my said makeup addiction, I also had to subscribe to the Sephora Play! Box. How could I resist? Similarly, I adore this subscription, especially because gifts recipients receive high end products exclusively, while Ipsy is sometimes more targeted towards Indi brands/new companies (which I do still love!). I especially love the skin care provided in the Play! Boxes because I get so excited to test everything out and switch up my routine every so often. Also, if this was not already obvious, both Ipsy’s and Sephora’s bags are perfect if you need travel size products which I find come in handy more often than not. Sephora also offers discounts and special offers for subscribers which is a win win too. I highly recommend. So, if you are debating spending the extra ten or so dollars a month on these subscription boxes, I say bite the bullet and do it! Not only do they give you something to look forward to, but they also prevent one from spending too much money on beauty products since you would have a consistent flow of merchandise arriving in your mailbox. There are also loads of other options out there that I have not mentioned, so do some research and find which one is best for you. In the wise words of Aziz Ansari’s character in Parks and Recreation: “Treat yo self!”
