At the age of thirty-three, track and field legend Allyson Felix is still breaking records and showing the world why she is one of the greatest women to ever step foot on a track. This past Sunday, September 29th, she secured her 12th gold medal at the 17th IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019. Competing in front of a crowd filled with thousands of fans from different countries all around the world, she put on a breathtaking performance during the mixed gender 4x 400- meter relay. With this win, she was able to surpass Jamaican track star Usain Bolt, after taking home the gold medal for the U.S. National team in the quartet relays.
Ms. Felix now attains the most gold medals at World Championships than any other athlete in the entire world. She also holds the record of having the most medals amongst male or female track athletes, in world championship competitions with 17 medals. Yet, the most rewarding part of this memorable win was that her daughter was able to watch her from the stands. Ms. Felix has been very open on social media with her struggles after giving birth to her daughter and her fight to get back to the sport that she loves. So, to win the gold medal and set another record as well shows the fierceness inside of her. The passion that Ms. Allyson Felix has for track and field is something truly inspiring and electrifying. Looking forward, excitement is in the air as Ms. Felix has already vocalized her plans to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics next year.
