5 Tips for Looking Cute but Comfy in Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Augustana chapter.

It’s finally fall, which begs the question: Will I utilize all the fun fall clothes I have, or will I succumb to wearing sweatpants and pajamas everywhere I go? I’ve already slipped up a few times (okay, more than a few), but managed to assess my closet and compile a few tips for looking cute but comfortable as the weather gets chillier.

Cardigans

I think cardigans are hallmarks of fall weather. Usually knitted, they come in all sorts of colors, sometimes with buttons or pockets, and are easy to slide on as a final layer to an outfit. (My own is maroon. It has pockets that can actually hold things. I love it dearly).

Bottoms with Colors/Patterns

In life, there seem to be jeans people and leggings people. Black leggings are a staple in a lot of outfits, and so are classic jeans, but why not spice them both up with a unique color or print? A one-color top or bottoms paired with something wilder is always a nice bit of contrast.

Boots!

Boots! That’s all. Riding boots, moto boots, Dr. Martens, rain boots… (though for comfort, I suggest trying them on before buying).

Knitted Sweaters

If cardigans are hallmarks, knitted sweaters are icons. Warm and cozy, like a hug from some yarn, they come in enough shapes, sizes, colors, and patterns to go with almost anything.

Fall Accessories

I’m trying hard to not just shamelessly promote my infinity scarf for this entire category (even though it’s very cool). Other cool things include beanies, socks (yes, socks can be adorable even if no one sees them), and belts.
