Many have had the discussion that R&B hasn’t had a real voice to capture the essence since the late ’90s. They do give props to the Chris Brown’s, Frank Ocean’s, and HER’s of the last decade. In the last few years, a lot of noise has been made around a woman whose words elevate the late 90’s sound again. With her poetic voice and her story-telling talent, 31-year-old Snoh Aalegra graces her fans with music painting pictures of the good and the bad of a relationship or even the struggles of being in a modern-day “situationship.” She knows how to transport you into her footsteps and into your feelings. Aalegra, originally birthed Sheri Nowrozi, was born and raised in Sweden. Anything personal to her you can learn through her music. She delves into family problems but really connects with her audience when she talks about relationships and the battles that come with one.

She notes her biggest inspirations as Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, and Prince. She had the honor of being Prince’s prodigy before his unexpected passing in mid-2016. When she was thirteen, she was signed to Sony Music Sweden but through the deal, she never released music but has said that she appreciates signing so early because she was exposed to the industry. She moved to Los Angles in her late teens to try and restart her music career.

In 2014, she rebranded herself as what she’s known as today and released her debut album titled FEELS late that year. In that same year, she had features with Common, Vince Staples and dropped an EP as well. Aalegra has worked with impeccable producers like NO I-D, who happens to be her cousin and Dpat and Atu from the music group Sonder.

In August of 2019, she released her second studio album -Ugh, those feels again. It tells a story of going through the motions of a relationship. She carries the listener through a rollercoaster of a relationship that is in trouble. The opening track Here Now (Intro) feels like one is waking up from a beautiful dream where you don’t understand why your about to do something, but you know you must do it because it feels right. Situationship shows the complication of being in a full-blown relationship without a title to it. Her recent album gives similar sounds of Drake’s 2010 Take Care. Her look and style really fit her as an artist. She carries a 90’s style with a mix of modern-day minimalist Kanye vibe. Aalegra’s personality from interviews and social media shows her as a quiet person but very fun. She seems like she lights up a room when she walks in. With her storming the scene recently, the music world is ready for Snoh Aalegra to take over and see what else she must bring to the table. From September to December Snoh Aalegra will be on tour titled, -Ugh the mini-tour, across the east coast and Canada. Tickets can be bought through her website snohnaalegra.com
