Hot chocolate season is officially upon us as the temperature begins its slow decline into the 50-degree weather. I cannot tell you how relieved I am that it is finally fall. All summer long I have been praying for and dreaming of the crisp Seattle air. (It sure beats sweltering heat and sticky humidity!) Fall is one of the best seasons, whether it’s for the beautiful colors in nature, cozying up to watch scary movies, taking refreshingly chilly walks, or visiting pumpkin patches, there is something for everyone. Here are five spooktastic things for you to check out this fall.

Booktoberfest

Seattle Public Library gets into the Halloween festivities by hosting a bunch of events. From trivia to “Libraryoke” to late-night tales and movie marathons, they have a lot of fun to offer! These events will be taking place from October 7 until November 7, so make sure to check it out and see if they offer something you might be interested in! All of their events are free but do have limited space due to fire codes. Link to website: BOOKTOBERFEST

Edge of the Circle

It’s time to get mystical. If you have ever been interested in magic, the occult, and all things paganistic, you might want to check this place out. They sell books on witchcraft, magical destinations, how to create sacred spaces with spells, incantations and herbs, and so much more. They also have a large collection of candles and tarot cards on sale. Edge of the Circle is here year-round and open 12-8 every day. Do keep in mind that this store does represent some people’s religion and belief system and that these are not the same books that Urban Outfitters sells, so if you do plan on making a trip out of it, remember to be respectful! Their website showcases some of the books and tarot cards that they have in stock, link: website

Seattle Metaphysical Library

Maintaining the mystic vibe, Seattle Metaphysical Library is a hidden gem located in Ballard. They have over 16,000 books ranging from topics like metaphysics, UFOs, psychology, astrology and all things atypical and mystic. They also have audio and videotapes, CDs, newspaper clippings and more available to the public. Same as before, this is a privately-owned library that represents something these individuals are passionate about so be kind and considerate. Now get out there and learn something weird and new! They are in kind of an obscure location and have irregular hours, so make sure you’re going on a day when they’re open. Their website has tons of information on where they’re located, when they’re open, and what they have in stock! Check out their website here: Seattle Metaphysical Library

Silent Movie Mondays

Silent Movie Mondays are back at The Paramount Theatre! On October 14 and 21, Seattle Theatre Group presents Body and Soul (1925) and Within Our Gates (1920). The doors open at 6:00 and the film starts at 7. Tickets cost $10, but if you’re a student they’re only $7. If you can’t make it this month, Silent Movie Mondays will be back in March and April with different old-timey options. Check out their website to read about the films their offering and to get your tickets: here.

Dracula

To get into the Halloween spirit, ACT Theatre presents Dracula *Dun DUn DuUuUuUn*!

You can get tickets for as little as $27. This adaptation was written by playwright Steven Dietz and directed by John Langs; check out their website to see what these two have to say about what the show will be like, as well as purchasing your tickets. Dracula will be showing from October 18 until November 17. They also have an ASL interpreted show on Friday, November 8. Check out the website HERE.

I am so excited to get into the spirit of fall and all that the holidays have to offer. Grab a friend and go to trivia night or go with your partner to a silent movie. The holidays are all about bringing us together and having some fun!
