If you haven’t noticed by now, it’s HOMECOMING SEASON !!!!!

Homecoming season in college is basically the ultimate party week for students. It’s deeper than football; it’s about celebrating and connecting with people. I mean football is good too, don’t get me wrong. Getting involved in the homecoming festivities is as important for the soul just as much as chicken soup (if you understood that reference let’s be friends pls). Here’s why homecoming week is the best week of the fall semester:

There’s parties in the parking lots

Everyone loves to party, whether its light partying or straight out Project X style. Tailgate parties are basically the unofficial pre-games for football games. Students, fans, alumni, etc will travel from all around just to attend the festivities that are taking place within the parking lot outside of the stadium. Most people who go to the tailgates don’t even go to the football game, so don’t worry if you couldn’t care less about the game. Also, there’s food.

Seriously, there’s always something to do

Everyone knows that their respective universities are big on homecoming events. Colleges want their students to have fun outside of classes and have something to do. Honestly I look forward to the homecoming week events for free t-shirts. Everyone loves a free t-shirt.

School Spirit is sometimes fun

I don’t know about you, but I love school spirit… during homecoming week only. I love to see the sea of teal here at Coastal. I love seeing Chauncey prancing his way around the campus, interacting with whoever wants to “speak” to him. I literally only find all of this acceptable during homecoming week because any other time is like “What? What’s going on. Stop the happiness. I’m trying to get to class you measly chanticleers.” But during homecoming week, I’m here for it.

There’s more parties, but outside of campus

If you miss some of the festivities during the week, don’t worry, there’s parties during the weekend too. Some may even start during the week because why not. These parties may not actually be associated with the university so expect the unexpected.

The football game is actually pretty exciting

Contrary to popular belief, I actually like going to the football games even though I give my school’s team a lot of crap. I love watching the team run out of the locker rooms through the sea of cold fog, and cheering them on. I’ve caught amazing moments on video, been on the jumbo screen dancing, and started a collection of t-shirts I’ve caught from the cheerleaders and dance team throwing them. Everyone is always on level 10,000 at the games and the energy is beautiful. So go to the games as long as you can bare and soak it up.

Homecoming week is a week full of surprises if you’re willing to give it a chance. It’ll feel like a break even if you still have to go to classes. Don’t be a party pooper, get out there and have some fun.
