Hey everyone! Welcome back to school! If you did not know already, I spent my summer in New York City this year. I was interning there as a Software Engineer at a financial-tech company called Goldman Sachs. Those 10 weeks were the best 10 weeks of my life. There were a lot of firsts: I got to be in my favorite city, live alone for the first time, live in a dorm, have a roommate, do my first real internship and so many more. During my 10 weeks there, I got to visit a lot of places in the city. Here is a list of some of the iconic lesser known things you can’t miss in NYC!
- The Oculus

The Oculus is a building that serves as a mall and a terminal station. It has shopping stores all the way though and has different terminal stations on either ends. The train I take to work stops at this station and I would see hunderds of people exiting the trains and running toward their respective work buildings. Truly one of my favorite things about New York is the sight of people crossing the street with a beautiful backdrop behind them.

One of my bucket list items for my NYC trip. I saw this first on instagram while searching for cool places to eat. It is so beautiful, aesthetic and calming. I went here duing the night and views were amazing. They are even more beautiful with the sun shining through the glass rooftop.
- Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

This is one of the best museums I’ve ever been to. The building itself is so artistic and beautiful. The art inside is just as wonderful. A cool thing about the this place is that the building spirals up from bottom to the top, so you can see the art either walking up (like a hike) or go all the way up and then walk down (way easier)
- Brookfield Place

I worked right next to this place, so I basically lived my life here. There’s everything that you need: mall, restaurants, food markets, cupcakes, ice cream, trees etc. It connects to the Oculus through an underground walkway which is also filled with amazing places to shop and eat. There’s an area in the back of the mall with an amazing view of the Hudson and frequent game nights during the summer.
- Boat Rides From Battery Park City Terminal

Boat rides from Manhattan are the best, especially during the summer. Like I mentioned before, I worked in lower Manhattan and our company had a building in Jersey City, NJ, which is just a boat ride away from where I work in NYC. Our team and I often went to the other building for meetings and events, and the view from the boat is incredible. Tip: every boat has an open top that is accessible to people.
This list is just based on my experience, and there’s a 100 more that I want to add here. What makes Manhattan so special is its diversity of people, cultures, occupations and so much more just within a 4 mile radius. Stay tuned for more NYC related articles! :)
