My Fall Break at Michigan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

This fall break, I visited my twin sister in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is currently a student at the University of Michigan. Our parents also flew from home to Ann Arbor, so the four of us spent the entire Fall break together. I was staying in my sister’s apartment, while our parents stayed at a nearby hotel. On our first day together, my sister gave us a tour around the campus. We visited the Ross School of Business, where she studies, and we also visited some of the university’s libraries. The Law Library pictured below, particularly caught my eye as it reminded me of Bapst.

On that same day, we also decide to go apple picking for the first time! None of the four of us had done so before, so this was a new experience for all of us. We first visited Wasem Fruit Farm. As we walked inside the store/information center, the smell of freshly baked apple cider donuts surrounded us. Of course, we bought some and enjoyed them right then and there. We also bought a cup of warm apple cider, which was perfect for the chilly weather. We then decided to grab a bag and headed on over to the apple trees to start picking our apples. We were able to pick some Red Delicious apples, as well as Idared apples. Our bag was almost overflowing with apples, which indicated to us that we had probably picked enough apples for one day. Here are some of the pictures I took while we were there.

After our visit to the Wasem Fruit Farm, we visited the Dexter Cider Mill in Dexter, Michigan. Here we bought some more apple cider donuts, as well as some more apple cider. After this, we grabbed some lunch and headed back to my sister’s appointment after a quick stop at Target. When we got back to my sister’s apartment and counted how many we apples we had picked at the fruit farm, we had collected over 60 apples! Since we had so many apples, and we were only going to be in Michigan for a couple of days, we decided to bake apple pies! For our first time making them, they turned out pretty good. They tasted even better with a cold scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.

On our next day, we had brunch together and visited the shops at State Street. We also visited the University of Michigan’s Museum of Natural History which had recently opened this Summer. After this, we decided to visit a nearby winery where we enjoyed some of the local wine and devoured some cheese plates. The next day, we had a very nice dinner with the parents of my sister’s roommate who live in Ionia, Michigan. We drove all the way to Ionia, which was an hour and a half away from Ann Arbor, and we ate at a restaurant there. At the end of the night, as we were saying our goodbyes, we gave them some of the apples we had collected since we still had plenty after making the pies. All in all, it was a very fun trip and it was nice to spend some time with family, as well as meet some of my sister’s friends. Now, back to reality!
