Bible Verses That Have Stuck With Me

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCU chapter.

Often times, as it is an unavoidable side effect of human nature, we find ourselves in a state of frustration. Not only with ourselves, but with what may be going on in our personal lives, our relationships with the people in it, and on top of that the heavy school workload we have as college students. Through these rough periods, I have found comfort in the Lord, and His Word. I have gathered a few of my favorite Bible verses that have helped me to persevere through these hardships, as well as how I have interpreted them to aid in my everyday life.

Hebrews 13:2- “Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for in doing so, some have entertained angels without knowing it.”

To me, this relays the idea that we do not know who we are coming into contact with or what the individual may be going through, which is why it is so important to show complete benevolence, and genuine kindness to everyone. By being good people without expecting anything in return, it helps to lead a life more like Jesus, which is a personal goal of mine, and I am sure many others. Whether they are strangers, or someone you have known your entire life, give them the same grace, kindness, and compassion that you would like to receive.

Jeremiah 29:13- “You shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart.”

By understanding, believing, and knowing God has a plan helps to push me to always give my all. Despite what happens, whether I like or dislike the result, I understand it is a part of His plan. Trusting in God helps me to soothe my frustration, and continue with a resilient heart with whatever negativity comes into my life, because by persevering through the difficult times will not only strengthen me on a mental level, but on a spiritual level with God.

1 Corinthians 6:20- “For you were bought with a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God.”

God created us all in his own perfect image. We are his children, and he loves us, so we should love and take care of ourselves. This verse helps me in the area of self-care and love, because if God loves me unconditionally, I should as well. I want to be the best version of myself mentally and physically for God, to show that I value everything he has continued to do for me. Taking care of myself, and each other is maintaining and sustaining His creations.

Psalms 9:11- “For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.”

Through this verse, I know not to be afraid, because God will protect me, and is with me always. I am never without Him. This helps me to make bold, brave decisions, or to try new things, because I am certain that I am being guarded, and there is nothing to fear.

Proverbs 3:3- “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.”

There is nothing more beautiful than a genuine human being. Part of being one, I believe, is carrying yourself with the virtues of love and faithfulness. By integrating those components into your life and character creates such a positive atmosphere. In doing that, I have found a reflection of that atmosphere into my life. Being faithful helps me to be honest and makes it easier to carry that virtue of love through my everyday life. I have been able to be more expressive with the love I have for others by just simply being honest, and faithful.
